A BIT ABOUT ME
|
Hi my name is Dawn and I am a 30 year old from Blackpool in Lancashire. I am currently separated from my husband of 10 years and have a 7 year old daughter called Amy.
I am currently in a relationship with Stephen, who I met on line in July 1999 in Yahoo chat. We have been inseperable ever since.

HELPING CHILDREN COPE WITH DIVORCE AND SEPARATION
|
Being in the process of divorce and having a 7 year old to help cope with it all, I decided to write and help other parents who may be going through the same as I have and how I help Amy to cope with it all.
Firstly it is not only difficult for us parents, but it hits children very hard. The first thing that I found was difficult for my daughter to do was to talk to me and to tell me how she was feeling. She did do this eventually in her own time. She did need alot of reassurance from me that she would not be in any trouble for saying what she felt.
The second problem was to find out how I could remedy these problems that she was having. The problems that she was going through were sleepless nights, feelings of confusion and also guilt. She felt as if it was all her fault that her father and I had split up, that tooks weeks of reassurance from both myself and my husband. The sleepless nights were more of a problem to deal with, some nights she was awake at 3 and 4 am. crying and feeling as if her little world had come to an end.
Then there was the reassurance that we still loved her and that, that was not going to change, I told her that just because her dad and I didn't love each other anymore it didn't mean that we didn't love her ant less. With alot of reassurance and a lot of love and care I managed to help her through it, I answered all of her questions truthfully and I didn't bother about what time of day or night it was. She has grown into a more confident little girl in just a few months of her father and I splitting up.
I hope that in the furture she will not be so scared to come to me when she needs to talk. We have grown closer but unfortunatly she has not grown any closer to her father. Stephen has been a big help as I was going through it as well. I still needed a shoulder to cry on and I was very lucky to have someone like him.
